My ideal clients come to me telling me they are getting more frequent headaches, have low energy , keep waking up in the middle of the night and no longer have control over their emotions. They are trying so hard at everything - giving 110% - hitting deadlines and chasing commendations at work whilst fighting childcare logistics and trying to squeeze in a session of CrossFit.

They worry that if they don’t complete their project, whether that’s a board presentation, a delivery plan, a client pitch deck, a legal brief, a campaign strategy, or a critical stakeholder update, to an exceptionally high standard and deliver it immediately, everything will fall apart.

They are also often working til 10pm and over the weekend and never seem to have any down time. They are exhausted but have a persistent belief that if they slow down, delegate, or take their foot off the accelerator, something will be missed, a decision will be questioned, or their competence will be judged. And I can completely resonate with this as it was my life for 20 years.

I know this pattern well. I was conditioned early to work hard, get the grades, climb the ladder and build the life that was supposed to equal happiness.

Like so many of my clients, I used to believe that I’d finally feel enough once I got the promotion. I would be validated, it would be proof that all the effort and pressure had been worth it.

But when I reached the goal, it still wasn’t enough. I found myself comparing, pushing, and setting ever higher standards for myself with self imposed deadlines and immaculate efficiency. The pace didn’t slow as I got more senior, it intensified. As a result, I was experiencing a constant internal buzzing, my brain was so wired when it hit the pillow that I wasn’t getting restorative sleep, so I was always fighting the day feeling on edge.

What I see now through a combination of my lived experience, the many driven people I have supported and my multiple certifications in nervous system regulation, is that this way of operating is not only counterproductive, it’s harmful. And when I say harmful, I mean that when left unchecked, those niggles that brought you here can escalate into insomnia, migraines, more intense pain and increased lethargy. And if your body is in a chronic state of stress like mine was and something happens like a surgery, car accident or strong virus, your body can shut down like it did with me so you no longer have a choice but to listen. When this happens, the road to recovery is much longer and I know because it happened to me and I don’t want it to happen to you.

It is the belief of “not enough” that keeps the body in chronic stress, and over time the constant flooding of cortisol in your body is what creates and exacerbates your symptoms.

What I know now is that a promotion with a more senior job title and payrise so you can buy that bigger house and go on that all inclusive holiday don’t need to come from pushing harder, proving how much you can take on or how fast you can deliver it.

Instead, they come from a nervous system that feels regulated enough to think clearly, make sound decisions, lead others, and stay calm under pressure. This means that success is sustainable and not short lived until you burnout.

When you feel grounded, capable and in control internally, your work reflects it, and that’s what gets rewarded.

And by the time people ask me for help, they’ve usually already tried the supplements, the talk therapy, the meditation apps, the physio, even acupuncture, but nothing has addressed the underlying pattern driving it all which is their dysregulated nervous system.

Why me?

I have been where you are.

For years, while building a 20 year career in the corporate world, I struggled with relentless symptoms like chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and noise sensitivity. I tried (what I believed at the time) was everything to get better.

Corporate life was busy. It was stressful. I worked for blue-chip companies, agencies, and consultancies where expectations were already sky-high, and then I raised them even further with my own self-imposed standards. I pushed myself relentlessly. I wanted to impress, to be the best, to get promoted, and to prove I could do it all.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2008, which later evolved into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and eventually Long Covid. My body simply couldn’t keep up anymore, and I was forced to slow down. What started as smaller signals such as frequent tonsillitis, tingling lips, random pains were my body trying to get my attention. When I didn’t listen, it had to take a far more drastic approach.

Trying to manage all of this alongside the constant demands of my career was overwhelming, and it’s not something I want for you.

I now understand that these symptoms and diagnoses were different manifestations of nervous system burnout, and that this can be reversed with the right strategies.

That’s why I retrained: to simplify the journey for others and share what I’ve learned, so you don’t have to spend years stuck in struggle and confusion like I did.
